Pioneer is a free space adventure game (resembling Frontier: Elite 2) set in the milky-way galaxy at the turn of the 31st century.
The game is open-ended, and you are free to explore the millions of star systems in the game. You can land on planets, slingshot past gas giants, and burn yourself to a crisp flying between binary star systems.
Future development for Pioneer will include many ways to make ends meet: piracy, smuggling, bounty-hunting, mining, doing missions for the various factions fighting for power, freedom or self-determination.

The video is out of date: planets look stunning now – the game generally has matured a quite a bit as well and looks to keep improving as more people hear about it and join.

A lot of potential here with the way the universe is completely procedurally generated while still being completely to scale (there’s enough non-repeating content generated so it will take the same amount of time to explore a real planet if you travel at the same speed). Even the cities on planets are procedurally generated and, when combined with the fact that game logic can be scripted in (the core engine is in c++), the potential craft a universe or a mod will be near unlimited.

Useful tip: the set speed mode helps to fly if you are new. Time acceleration is important too (set speed to 0 and hold down ctrl to force time acceleration near planets and watch the and watch the time lapse effect).
